GENE01

from GENE

The limited edition first issue of Oxford art magazine GENE.

It took us five long months to put together the first issue of GENE. Our enthusiasm for the project was no match for the unavoidable drag of trying to get a group of artists and overthinkers to organise something. We had several meetings at which very little was decided, followed by a series of misunderstandings, forgettings, delays, confusions, missing persons and mild disagreements. Then we printed all the pages in the wrong order. But we got there in the end, and we’re proud of the result.

There’s writing by transatlantic wordsmith Miranda Ward, multilingual poetry and a manifesto by Little Fish’s Juju Sophie, a short story by musician and playwright Nick Gill, scores of a few 12-second songs by Ben Walker and a mind-blowing 16-page graphic novel by Daley Walton.
